Voyage Risk Assessment
VRAAssess the threat and vessel-specific vulnerability associated with a planned voyage at a defined point in time. A VRA combines a regional/route threat assessment with a vessel-specific vulnerability assessment to derive applicable voyage risk under Orbital's approved methodology.
What it answers
What is the security threat along this planned voyage, and how vulnerable is this specific vessel to it, resulting in the applicable voyage risk.
What you receive
- Regional / route threat assessment against current approved Orbital intelligence
- Vessel-specific vulnerability assessment for the planned voyage
- Vessel affiliation check
- Derived voyage risk under Orbital's approved methodology
- Assessment reference, planned voyage, assessment date/time, intelligence cut-off and validity
Input required
- Vessel IMO
- Departure and destination ports
- Planned departure
- Route / waypoint information where required
Regional / route threat
The voyage route is assessed against current approved regional assessments, operational risk areas, ports, chokepoints, published incidents, conflict exposure, piracy, maritime crime, GNSS/electronic interference and other current maritime threats.
Vessel-specific vulnerability
The specific vessel and voyage are assessed against the threat using region-specific questionnaires relevant to the environments crossed. Threat and vulnerability are distinguished; the highest threat rating is not simply selected.
Multiple regions
A voyage may cross several regions. All relevant regions are identified and the appropriate assessment modules applied, with common questions handled sensibly rather than repeated.
Supports TMSA Element 13 and voyage planning
The Voyage Risk Assessment supports TMSA Element 13 (Maritime Security) and gives the Ship Security Officer (SSO) and Master route- and threat-specific input for voyage planning and port-call preparation.
Validity & intelligence cut-off
Vessel-, route- and time-specific. Each assessment records its assessment date/time, intelligence cut-off and validity. Validity policy is set by Orbital; a material change may affect validity.
