Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Orbital Risk Intelligence (“Orbital”, “we”, “us”) collects and uses personal data when you use this website, contact us, subscribe to updates, or purchase an assessment. We are the data controller for this processing under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Who we are
- Registered entity: Orbital Risk Intelligence
- Data-protection contact: info@orbitalriskintelligence.com
The personal data we collect
We collect only the data needed for the purpose you contacted us for:
- Enquiry & demo forms: your name, company, work email, the topic, and the content of your message. Used to respond to and manage your enquiry.
- Newsletter / intelligence updates: your email address. Used only to send the updates you signed up for.
- Report downloads: your name, company and work email, so we can email you the report you requested. We store your email in our contacts list. We only send you future reports or marketing if you tick the opt-in box; if you do not, we record your contact but do not subscribe you, and do not market to you. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- Assessment checkout: the details you enter to order an assessment (for example a vessel IMO number, departure and destination ports, planned voyage details). These identify a vessel and voyage; they are not generally personal data, but may be associated with you as the purchaser. This information is passed securely to the Orbital assessment platform to fulfil your order.
- Payment data: card/payment details are not collected or stored by this website. Payment is taken on the Orbital assessment platform by its payment processor; we receive only confirmation of payment status.
- Technical & usage data: aggregated, cookie-free analytics (see our Cookie Policy). We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
How and why we use it (lawful bases)
- Responding to enquiries: our legitimate interests in answering and managing business enquiries, and/or taking steps at your request prior to entering a contract.
- Sending the newsletter: your consent, which you may withdraw at any time via the unsubscribe link or by contacting us.
- Sending a requested report: our legitimate interests in responding to your request. Sending you future reports or marketing relies on your consent (the opt-in box), which you may withdraw at any time.
- Providing and fulfilling assessments: performance of a contract with you.
- Security, fraud prevention and service improvement: our legitimate interests in operating a secure, reliable website.
- Legal and accounting obligations: compliance with a legal obligation.
Who we share it with
We share personal data only with service providers who process it on our behalf under appropriate contracts, and where required by law. Our sub-processors are:
- Vercel: website hosting (and our cookie-free analytics).
- Stripe: payment processing.
- Resend: email delivery and our contacts list (enquiries, newsletter and report downloads).
- Google Workspace: email and business systems.
- The Orbital assessment platform: checkout handoff and fulfilment of assessment orders.
We do not sell personal data.
International transfers
Some of our service providers are based in the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside the UK, we rely on the UK-US Data Bridge where the recipient is certified under it, or otherwise on the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
We keep personal data only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected, then delete or anonymise it. We keep enquiry records for 2 years; orders, invoices and acceptance records for 6 years (to meet accounting and legal requirements); and the newsletter list until you unsubscribe.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to processing, data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time (without affecting prior processing). To exercise any right, contact info@orbitalriskintelligence.com.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk, though we would welcome the chance to address your concerns first.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be published on this page.
